Hull Prairie Solar Classroom

Perrysburg, Ohio

Designed with The Collaborative Inc.

This pavilion serves Perrysburg Intermediate students as a space for outdoor learning and as an example of renewable energy technology. The design intent was to create a generous amount of dappled shade with the least amount of structure. Clear laminated glass panels were specified to display the photovoltaic cells, associated wiring and converters while filtering the sunlight for the flexible classroom space below. Sited within a developing native garden adjacent to the Hull Prairie Intermediate School the pavilion will eventually be surrounded by drought-resistant plantings and bioswales that collect and filter nearby hardscape runoff.
